October 16, 2026 -- EAST GRAND RAPIDS, MI As the EGR Girls Field Hockey gets closer to their Regional Quarterfinal match-up set for Monday, October 19 versus the Rockford Rams, the coaching staff thought an extended "film study" session would give the girls insight, or at least focus. On Friday afternoon after a week of intense practices, including a practice/scrimmage with Forest Hill United on Thursday, girls gathered in the classroom and were surprised with a viewing of the inspiration story of the 1971 TC Williams football team in the epic movie Remember the Titans. The Denzel Washington-led cast addresses the integration of the Virginia high school that integrated in 1971, well after the 1954 landmark Supreme Court decision for school desegregation, Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas. The story follows the newly integrated team through their first season and the undefeated season they accomplished. Thanks to Celebration Cinema for their generous donation of a 3' bag of popcorn. The girls enjoyed it along with some drinks to make it a relaxing afternoon together as a team. The warmth of the room was deceiving as the team will pick up with practice outdoors again with a 6:30 AM Saturday practice. Some players wanted to get in some extra work after the movie, and went to Mehney Field for two and a half hours of skill work to stay sharp. GO EAST!!
