EGR Varsity Field Hockey v. Greenhills

The EGR Field Hockey started their official schedule on Tuesday v. Greenhills. Not having played Greenhills last year, the team did not know what to expect. What they got was a hard fought contest that ended with EGR on the unlucky side of the total. At times, the game had the feel of a mid-season contest, which bodes well for the rest of the season. Greenhills started the scoring with a penalty stroke half way through the 2nd quarter. Ellie Hilgendorf (Jr) made a valiant effort for the shot about hip high on her waffle board side. The shot just had enough steam to get by her and put Greenhills up 1-0. EGR came back in the 2nd half tallying their first goal of the season on a beautiful play by Addie Storrs (Jr) dispossessing the defender in her zone and capitalizing by sliding a sweet pass to Kellan Hudson (Sr), who slotted the ball past the Greenhills keeper to level the score at 1-1. The teams went back and forth putting pressure on each other. Ultimately, with about 10 minutes remaining in the contest, Greenhills broke through with another goal. With the score 2-1, EGR really poured it on, even at times with a 2-person disadvantage. Unfortunately, they could not get the tying goal, and the game ended with Greenhills walking off with a 2-1 victory. The improvement is noticeable and the season has a lot of promise as the team heads into a few weeks of heavy competition. It is going to be exciting, so come on out and support the EGR Field Hockey program as the girls ratchet up their intensity.
