Making that early season trip across the state on a Saturday morning is never easy. And when you get off the bus and step onto the field with one of the top programs in the state, you have your work cut out for you. This is what the EGR Varsity Field Hockey faced on Saturday, August 24 when they played Detroit Country Day School. As the temperature climbed throughout the morning, the heat started to take a toll on the players. A goal midway through the first quarter and again in the second quarter had the Lady Pioneers heading into the halftime break down 0-2. The girls came out with fire in the third quarter and the teams were held scoreless. Going into the fourth quarter the team shifted into a more aggressive attack on DCDS, but unfortunately with increased offensive pressure, it opened up some holes in the defense that the DCDS girls capitalized on by scoring two goals in the final stanza. Tough loss, but a good barometer for the Lady Pioneers to chart the course for the day going forward.
