EGR Varsity Field Hockey v. Cranbrook-Kingwood, 8/24/24 The afternoon match-up for the first doubleheader Saturday of the season came against another quality side in Cranbrook-Kingwood. The heat really had taken hold in the afternoon and with a short bench the fatigue started to settle in early during this game. The effort was never lacking, but the fatigue was evident as C-K had not yet played and was fresh from the opening whistle. The Lady Pioneers gave a spirited effort, but still were unable to generate the offense the team is still looking for this season. There were positives in the play of goalkeeper Ellie Hilgendorf ('26), the center mid play of Henny Maher ('25) and the offensive impact of co-captain Kellan Hudson ('25). With a team comprised of predominantly new varsity players, each is still feeling out their new role and the speed of the Varsity game. However, the learning curve is steep and results will be seen as the team progresses through the season.
