EGR Varsity Field Hockey v Grosse Pointe North HS- 9.14.24 The EGR Lady Pioneers traveled across the state for their annual overnight trip. The weekend of competition began by watching the University of Michigan deconstruct the porous University of Ohio defense. Their 6-0 win served as a reminder that with hard work and confidence in your teammates, results like these can become commonplace. As the sun rose on the Saturday of competition for the team, it took the team a bit longer to get their heads above the horizon. With a 2nd quarter goal on a lapse in attention to detail, the Lady Pioneers spent the remainder of the game forcing the pace and putting a lot of pressure on the Lady Norsemen's defense and goalie. It proved frustrating and tiresome as the temperature rose on the field. In the final flickers of the flame, Avery Albers ('27) took the insert from Addie Storrs ('26) on a penalty corner and after ripping a shot, benefitted from the deflection off a defender's stick to pop home the equalizer at 14:30 of the 4th quarter. In the final 30 seconds, EGR put on another display of pressure, but were unable to get that last gasp goal to pull out a victory. The tie was well earned with the amount of sustained pressure the team put on, but the Saturday early game felt as if there was more to the Lady Pioneers' game than they let the opponent see.
